Population Linkages in the Pacific Ocean
When: August 6-8 (possibly to the 9th), 2012
Location: Kewalo Marine Laboratory, University of Hawaii at Manoa
This 3-4 day institute will feature lectures on how genetics is a fundamental tool in spatial population ecology, how to assay genetic variation, and how genetic data can help with marine management using examples from genetic connectivity data on invertebrates and commercial fisheries. The labs in the workshop will include isolating DNA from marine organisms, PCR of purified DNA, sequence analyses, as well as phylogeny testing using DNA analysis tools.
Additional information on topics to be covered and instructors committed to the workshop will be announced soon.
The National Science Foundation COSEE-PP grant will provide funds for travel and per diem for participating community college instructors from Guam, Palau, Pohnpei, Majuro or American Samoa, as well as lunches during the workshop. While travel and per diem funds are not available for college instructors living on Oahu, their lunches and beverages will be provided during the workshop.
Application information will be posted as soon as the details of the institute have been finalized.
